Egg vs Comet

Both are AI browsers. Different relationships with the model.

Comet is Perplexity’s browser, locked to Perplexity’s model. Egg is BYOK by default, with skills, an agent firewall, and a workspace layer Comet doesn’t ship.

The headline difference

Egg doesn’t lock you into a model.

Comet routes everything through Perplexity. Egg goes direct to whichever provider you brought a key for — or to Ollama on your hardware. The model isn’t the product; the browser is.

BYOK is the default

Use Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, OpenRouter, or local Ollama. Mix per agent, per task. No proxy, no relay — the daemon calls your provider directly.

Skills, not just chat

The agent runs skill bundles — web research, Google Workspace, code execution, media processing, local files, and custom folders you write yourself.

Workspaces with knowledge

Filesystem-backed projects, knowledge compilation, contacts, monitors, publish. Comet’s Spaces are tab-grouping. Egg’s workspaces are a system.

Privacy at the protocol layer

Always-on tracker blocking, parameter stripping, prefetch suppression. Comet inherits Chromium defaults and routes inference through Perplexity’s cloud.

Agent firewall + audit log

Approval prompts, per-service rules, every tool call logged. Comet doesn’t expose this surface area.

Where Comet wins

If you’re already a Perplexity Pro user, Comet’s search-first UX is tightly integrated with their indexes and citations. Egg is more general-purpose.
